Benedita Camacho was born in Porto in 1977, is married, has three children, and has lived in Coimbra since 2005.
She is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of Universidade Lusíada Norte, where she teaches in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cycles of studies in Design. She was the coordinator of the Bachelor’s degree in Design and the Master’s degree in Product Design, and since 2024 has been the Scientific Coordinator of the PhD in Design at the same institution.
A university lecturer in the scientific area of Design since 2003, she is also co-founder and managing partner of the design studio Duplo Network, based in Coimbra.
She was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2018) and a Doctoral Research Fellow (2013) funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), both in Design at the University of Aveiro, where she also completed her Master’s degree in Design (2008). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto (2002). Since 2025, she has been studying Architecture at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra, aiming to complement her research in the triad art · design · architecture.
She regularly participates in national and international projects, publications, conferences, and collaborative research networks. Her work has been published and/or presented in 15 countries, across 22 universities (8 national and 14 international).
She is the author of several scientific publications and award-winning research in the areas of Design for health and well-being, User experience design, Design for sustainability, and Design education. She has participated in international networks such as the Design Research Society (DRS), the European Academy of Design (EAD), The Design Journal (Taylor & Francis), and Marie Curie Actions. She is the author of the research project PictoPharma – Pharmaceutical Pictogram System®, distinguished with multiple scientific awards.
She was previously a collaborator at CIAD (Research Centre in Art and Design, Escola Superior Gallaecia), an integrated researcher at CITAD (Research Centre in Territory, Architecture and Design, Universidade Lusíada), and an integrated researcher at ID+ (Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture, University of Aveiro). She is currently an integrated researcher at CEAA (Arnaldo Araújo Research Centre)
