Short Curriculum

Cristina Caramelo Gomes is Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Architecture and Arts at Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa. She teaches in the Architecture and Design programs.

She holds a PhD from the University of Salford, United Kingdom (2000), with the thesis “A conceptual model to implement teleworking in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area”, where she studied the impact of remote work on housing typologies. In 2011, at the same institution, she completed her postdoctoral research project “INCLUSIVE/SMART housing patterns in the 21st century – An attempt to improve individual perception and spatial use of interior layouts”, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).

In the year of 2016, she was awarded the aggregation in Design by Lisbon School of Architecture, Universidade de Lisboa.

She has successfully supervised several doctoral and master’s dissertations. She frequently serves on evaluation panels for FCT doctoral grant applications.

Her research integrates the CITAD (Research Centre on Territory, Architecture and Design) at Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa and CIAUD (Research Centre on Architecture, Urbanism and Design). Her interests lie within the broad field of Smart and Inclusive Environments, with particular focus on the humanization of the built environment through ICT. Her work spans Architecture, Design, User Experience, ICT/BIM, Human Factors, Smart Environments, Human-Centred Design and Social Sustainability.

She has authored and co-authored multiple book chapters and indexed journal articles and has presented her research at national and international conferences. She also regularly serves as a reviewer for leading journals and scientific conferences.
