Fernando Hipólito. Graduated in Architecture from FA-UTL (Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon, 1987) and holds a PhD in Architecture, in the program “Text and cultural context around the Architectural Project” (Professor Josep Muntañola) at UPC-ETSAB (Polytechnic University of Catalonia – Barcelona School of Architecture, 2002). He has been a lecturer of the Project course at FAA-ULL (Faculty of Architecture and Arts of Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa) since 1988. He is the coordinator of the MIA (Integrated Master’s in Architecture), Coordinator of the PhD Program in Architecture, Coordinator of the 1st and 2nd year of MIA, and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Interior Architecture.
Fernando Hipólito is also an integrated researcher at CITAD (Research Center for Territory, Architecture and Design at FAA-ULL) and Coordinator of the Research Project “Inhabiting: the house”, with Professor Helena Botelho. He has been developing research in the field of Project Theory, with a particular focus on paradigmatic cases of private housing (houses), on the importance of place as a design tool, and on the clarification of a material and immaterial (cultural) sustainability applied to the specificity of Portuguese, contemporary, and local architecture. In 2011, he published the bilingual book “Site, Project and Architecture”, True Team Editions, Lisbon, aimed at exploring the process of making and reading architectural projects.
