Modern Architecture at Famalicão

The Modern Architecture Project in Famalicão is the result of an institutional partnership between CEAA and a Vila Nova de Famalicão Town Hall, which began in 2016 and runs until 2019.

At the base of this project is the desire of the municipality, in collaboration with the CEAA researchers, to know, divulge and create a road map of the modern architecture of the County, in order to preserve its heritage and raise awareness of its population.

The itinerary began with 13 buildings designed by Januário Godinho (1910/1990), an architect with a strong presence at the county. The course begins in the town hall building and goes through several private houses, ending in the parish of Louro, where most of the public buildings it designed by Januário Godinho is located.

The dissemination activities began with the Colloquium Famalicão. Brands of Modernity, which took place in the City Hall, followed by a guided tour of the works of the architect Januário Godinho.

Simultaneously, was open to public an exhibition, Januário Godinho, Architect (1910-1990) Through Materiality, curated by the CEAA's researcher Fátima Sales. This exhibition was open from October 21st to November 25th in the former court of Famalicão.

Along with the exhibition, and in order to reach the younger audiences of the municipal schools, activities were carried out in partnership with the CMVNF educational services, based on the design of Dioramas, authored by two CEAA researchers, based on images of works by Januário Godinho.

For 2018, it is planned to publish and launch the minutes of the Colloquium Famalicão, Brands of Modernity.
