Silenced Voices: madness or divergence? is a research project, which values ??artistic research and experimentation as innovative practices of development and knowledge, through the collection of narrative, expressive and symbolic materials intended for theoretical production and artistic creation.
The main objective of the project is to contribute to the study of women who refused to follow the ideals proposed by dictatorial regimes, namely by Italian fascism, who were considered mad and interned in asylums far from society so as not to corrupt the dominant morality.
We also propose to complement the investigation with the exhibition of a documentary about the investigative and creative process and public presentation of a play whose dramaturgy results from the collected materials.
Although these practices have been applied throughout history, the time frame of this project is limited to the period of Italian fascism, which will allow for comparisons with other dictatorial regimes, namely in Portugal and Brazil, that can contribute to the studies of questions of gender and the mechanisms of repression of difference through illness.
